Isolation Systems DM-8000 and DM-8000H

When measuring Vce and Vge of the inverter upper arm, the gate and collector voltages must be measured based on the output waveform. This means that the single-end-input probe that comes with oscilloscopes cannot be used.

Isolation Systems DM-8000 and DM-8000H

Conventionally, a differential probe has been used to execute this kind of measurement. However, due to problems such as waveform distortion caused by constraints on the common-mode rejection ratio CMRR and common-mode withstand voltage, it has been difficult to obtain a sufficient measurement bandwidth.

With Iwatsu’s isolation system, these constraints do not apply because the measurement units are isolated using optical fiber cables, enabling accurate signal measurement.

Supports floating, wide-bandwidth, multi-channel and simultaneous measurement, as well as ultra-high voltage floating measurement
  • The high-voltage measurement units are isolated from the operation unit by optical fiber cables
  • Frequency bandwidth: DC to 500 MHz
  • Multi-channel simultaneous measurement (2 to 24 channels)
  • The high-voltage measurement units are battery powered (can operate continuously for approx 12 hours)
Example configuration using twelve DM-900 isolation units (24 channels)

Optimum applications
  • Simultaneous measurement of inverter upper- and lower-arm signals
  • Measurement of power module power loss
  • Long-distance measurement of surge in devices such as switches (maximum transmission distance: 200 m)
  • Monitoring of lightening surge waveforms

Iwatsu isolation systems are optimum for ultra-high voltage, wide-bandwidth, multi-channel applications

The high-voltage measurement units can be isolated electrically from the operation unit and from each other by using optical fiber cables. This means that inverter upper- and lower-arm signals and signals with different reference potentials—such as those from the primary and secondary sections of a power converter—can be measured at the same time.

When monitoring signals such as Vce and Vge from an inverter upper arm, it is necessary to measure the floating potential. Previously, when signals were measured using a conventional differential probe, problems such as waveform distortion caused by constraints on the common-mode rejection ratio and common-mode withstand voltage made it difficult to obtain a sufficient measurement bandwidth. With Iwatsu’s isolation systems, these constraints do not apply because the measurement units are isolated using optical fiber cables, enabling accurate signal measurement.

IS Viewer software is provided as standard to operate the system and monitor waveforms. IS Viewer can also be used offline, allowing you to manage your data from any location. Measurement screen example

Iwatsu isolation systems are ideal for ultra-high voltage, wide-band, multi-channel applications

1 Main unit (DM-8000)
2 Acquisition control card (DM-610)
3 Transceiver card (DM-600)
Two isolation units can be connected using only one card.
Up to 6 transceiver cards can be mounted in the main unit (slots 1 to 6).
4 LAN cable
5 Controller PC (option)
6 Optical fiber cable (option)
Cables with different lengths—from 2 to 200 meters.
※1-2-5 step length
Optical fiber cable
The optical fiber cables are strong and flexible.
7 Isolation unit (DM-900)
  • Frequency bandwidth: DC to 500 MHz
  • Maximum sample rate: 2 GS/s
  • Memory length: 500 k points
  • Input: 2 channels (non-isolated)
Multiple channels (from 2 to 24 channels) can be measured at the same time.
8 Lithium-ion batteries (built-in)
※Batteries can be inserted and removed from the front of the unit.
One unit can operate continuously for 12 hours on three lithium-ion batteries.
Lithium-ion batteries
Because the high-voltage measurement units are battery-powered, they are not affected by ground loops or other causes of noise.
9 High-voltage probe (option)
High-voltage probe
Voltage and current probes used for oscilloscopes can be used.
